Lead Pastor
Jonathan Barbee
Jonathan is married to his college sweetheart Brandi. They have two daughters Chloe (married to Collin) and Caroline. Jonathan has a deep love for God's Word and discovering truths in his personal study. In addition, he enjoys hunting, fishing, tennis, running, basketball, and anything related to UNC, Mets, and NY Giants.
Education: BA in Christian Studies from North Greenville University. Masters of Divinity in Biblical Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Leadership at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Associate Pastor of Children, Family & Discipleship
Devin Warfield
Devin was born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma. He met his wife Nikki during college on a mission trip to Guatemala, and they later lived there for four years. They have two children, Micah and Della. Devin loves to preach and teach God’s Word and disciple young believers. His hobbies include drinking coffee, playing golf, eating Mexican food, and playing “Sorry” with his family.
Education: BA in Religion from Oklahoma Baptist University. Masters of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Associate Pastor of Worship & Students
Tanner Dobson
Tanner was born and raised in Durham. Tanner is married to Grace and they have a son, Samuel. During his free time, Tanner enjoys playing basketball, spending time with his wife and son, and making music with one of his many beautiful guitars.
Education: BA from Liberty University. Currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Elder
Skip Marsh
Skip is married to Julie for over 45 years and they are the parents of 2 children. The Lord led them to Bethesda in 1997 and they are grateful to serve along with this wonderful leadership team. Skip's focus is teaching and men’s discipleship. Skip and Julie are also college football fans (especially the University of Tennessee).
Elder
Carl Brown
Carl Brown has ties to Bethesda for over 70 years as a Durham native and graduate of Durham High School, he married Joan, a longtime member of the Bethesda community. Together they have one daughter who lives nearby.
Carl accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1963 and soon after became a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where he has faithfully served ever since. Over the years, he has served as a deacon and now as an elder, with a deep passion for teaching and studying God’s Word and serving the church family.
Before retiring, Carl spent 26 years working as a furniture and electronics salesman for Sears in Raleigh. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and cheering on Duke athletics.

Head of School
Dr. Alexander Grey
Dr. Grey is well-educated and comes from a family where both parents taught on the college level. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching, both from Liberty University. He also has an Educational Specialist Certification in K-12 Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Secondary Social Sciences. Finally, he holds a Doctor of Education in K-12 Curriculum Instruction from Liberty University with a concentration in Curriculum Planning and Instruction. Dr. Grey is an ACSI Certified Administrator, and has certifications as an Elementary Teacher, Bible Teacher K-12, and Secondary Teacher 7-12 in Social Sciences.
Dr. Grey brings 25 years of experience as Head of School, Headmaster, Associate Head of School, Upper School History Instructor, History Department Head, Varsity Baseball Coach, and Recreation Outreach Facilitator.
Lower School Principal
Brenda Brown
Ms. Brown has faithfully served at the academy since its inception. many of those years as an assistant principal. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University. Ms. Brown has two grown children Susan and Andy. Her granddaughter attends BCA. She has also served at Bethesda Baptist Church working with children, teaching adult Sunday School, and helping in the audio/visual ministry. Many say, “Ms. Brown came with the building in 1997.”
